North Christian

Legacy Website

Thanks for stopping by. This website is dedicated to the legacy of our congregation’s ministry. Our former church building is currently closed and not open to visitors.

Past Services

More Than a Building

On September 25, 1955, forty-three persons banded together in Christian love to organize North Christian Church. On September 2, 1962 the congregation held a groundbreaking ceremony. The first worship service in the new church took place on March 8, 1964. On July 16th, 2022 the congregation held a final “Celebration of Life” service and closed the church.

While Eero Saarinen’s architectural masterpiece became an important part of our story, it’s not the whole story.  This website is dedicated to the vision, history, and ministry of the congregation of North Christian Church in Columbus, Indiana.

In the coming months, a legacy group will get to work telling our story here. For now, please enjoy some content from our old website!

Groundbreaking September 1962

Open and Affirming

We were an Open and Affirming Congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) that celebrated the lives and ministries of all of our members with a particular welcome to LGBTQ+ people. North Christian Church welcomed LGBTQ+ people as members, serving as any other member might serve, in any church positions. The church provided LGBTQ+ people all services of the church. Everyone was welcome!

Celebration of Life Service

On Saturday, July 16th, 2022 at 11:00 am we celebrated  67 years of ministry and the legacy we leave behind. We had several guest speakers, communion, and beautiful music, including hymns and instrumental pieces. You can listen to audio of the service above and view/download the bulletin below.
